OFF ROAD COURSE

NOTE: SOLD OUT SESSIONS:
Saturday 14.00

What it's all about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abrb5AZDeW8

Get down and dirty on the Billing off-road course, which is situated a short distance from the main showground, across the river. Part of an original quarry, it has been left to grow wild and you could be forgiven for thinking you’ve driven deep into the jungle as you make your way down tracks lined with leafy trees and tall grasses.

Do you have what it takes to tackle the terrain? Go on, remind your Land Rover what it was built for! Roll up the canvas sides or even just unbolt the hard top and go topless for a truly authentic African experience!

If you fancy taking a dip, then the lake is the place for you. Stay within the markers and you can’t go wrong. As you exit the lake, you’ll see the mud run come into view, great for those who really can’t resist getting stuck in.

With any of the ‘hazards’ if you don’t want to drive them there will be a bypass route. Discretion can often be the best policy.

The course is designed to be non-damaging, so unless you make a particularly silly move, it’s ideal for ‘challenge’ Land Rovers and ‘shinies’ alike. Marshals are on hand all day every day to give advice and help out so don’t be afraid to ask, you could pick up some handy hints.

The marshaling team are led by LRM regular Charlie Thorn who has held training sessions over the winter months. Marshals are trained in recovery techniques and their vehicles are properly equipped to deal with any situation that may arise.

From an early Series One to a Range Rover Sport or Freelander 2, there’s something for everyone – how many different generations can you spot in one weekend? Get the kids to brush up on their model knowledge. There are plenty of safe places to watch the action, even if you don’t have a slot booked, so you can still get involved and shout encouragement!

Be warned, it’s addictive and you may just want to give your Land Rover a try after you see what these amazing vehicles are capable of on this fun-filled course. Sessions are still available. £18 per one hour session or £15 for LRM subscribers.

The Billing off-road course is truly one of the most exciting and enjoyable parts of the show, both from a drivers and spectators point of view. Don't miss it!

The course will be in full swing again in 2008 including a host of new challenges and entertainments. Day visitors and campers can book up to two sessions on the course, either on the same or different days.

A booking form is printed in the latest issue of LRM.
